What type of circuit do I require?
Follow the National Electrical Codes, particularly the 80% rule, ensuring that only 80% of your circuit capacity is utilized for a continuous load.
- For installing RIPPLEON using a NEMA 14-50 plug, ensure a NEMA 14-50 outlet connected to a 50A circuit, with a maximum output of 40A. The outlet should have the ground prong oriented upwards.
- For a maximum output of 48A with a hardwired setup, use a dedicated 60A circuit.
Should I opt for a plug-in installation or a hardwired setup?
RIPPLEON’s Smart EV charger offers flexibility with both plug-in (40A) and hardwired (48A) options.
Is it possible to remove the NEMA 14-50 plug for direct hard-wiring?
This is not recommended due to potential safety risks.
Do I need an electrician if an outlet is already installed?
If your home has a NEMA 14-50 outlet, you can plug in your RIPPLEON Smart EV Charger directly.
Is the charger compatible with my EV?
RIPPLEON chargers are compatible with all EVs and hybrids with an SAE-J1772 interface. Tesla users require an adapter.
What is the charging speed of level 2 electric vehicle chargers?
The Level 2 RIPPLEON charger operates at 240 volts, with a range from 6 to 48 amps.
- 48 Amps (11.5 kW): Delivers 35-60 miles of range per hour for light-duty BEV, ideal for faster charging.
- 40 Amps (9.6 kW): Delivers 30-50 miles of range per hour for light-duty BEV, compatible with most residential systems.
How much does it cost to charge a vehicle?
Costs vary based on local electricity rates (kWh) but are generally lower than fuel costs for gasoline vehicles. The final cost remains relatively lower than for vehicles with internal combustion engines.
Why is my charging speed slower than expected?
Check your vehicle’s maximum charging current, as the actual rate is determined by the car.
Why does it automatically disconnect during charging?
If the charging station automatically disconnects during charging, please check that the home circuit is not aged and that the home circuit breaker meets the needs of the car. If the charging current is 40A, we need 50A circuit breaker to ensure safe charging.
Is it possible to use the charger without an internet connection?
Certainly, even in the absence of an internet or WiFi connection, the charger remains functional.
My vehicle isn’t charging. What should I do?
- Ensure the EV charging cable latch is securely locked.
- Check if your vehicle is set to charge at a specific time, as this could delay charging.
Is this charger eligible for a rebates & incentive?
Yes, the Energy Star certification qualifies it for various rebates, tax credits, and cost savings. Visit IRS Form 8911 and check with local utilities for details.
Is the app capable of handling multiple users?
Yes, the administrator can invite additional users and assign permissions.
What actions should I take if I am unable to begin charging at the scheduled time?
Charging will begin as soon as your vehicle is connected within the scheduled period.
What should I do if the charger can’t connect to Wi-Fi?
Kindly restart your Wi-Fi router. Additionally, it is advisable to power off and then power on the charger.
Scheduled charging did not commence at the designated time. What could be the reason for this?
Kindly verify the time zone settings within the application. The charger determines the time zone according to the IP address of the connected Wi-Fi router.
Do I need to use both the car’s app and RIPPLEON’s app?
Avoid duplicating settings in both apps to ensure smooth functionality. RIPPLEON’s app is designed for optimal performance with the charger’s smart features.
Can I use it without connecting the app?
Absolutely. Use the side buttons to adjust the current, then connect to your vehicle to start charging.
Can I install RIPPLEON outdoors?
Yes, it’s built to withstand rain, snow, and cold weather, with an IP65 and NEMA 3R rating, protecting it from water, dust, and temperatures from -13°F to 131°F (-25°C to 55°C).
What safety features are built into RIPPLEON chargers?
RIPPLEON is built with protection mechanisms against overcurrent, current leakage, overvoltage, undervoltage, overheating, surge issues, and more.
